I work with ages 16+ navigating religious trauma, spiritual abuse, deconstruction/reconstruction, identity shifts/exploration, chronic illness/pain, complex trauma, and dissociation. Many of my clients have left high-control religious environments and intellectually understand they are safe now, while their nervous systems are still responding as though the danger never ended. My approach is integrative and trauma-focused, with a strong emphasis on stabilization, collaboration, informed consent, and honoring the protective adaptations that once helped you survive. I have completed advanced training in EMDR therapy and am currently working toward EMDRIA certification. I continue to pursue specialized training and consultation in complex trauma and dissociation to deepen my work with clients whose experiences require thoughtful, individualized care. While easing distress matters, I'm equally interested in helping you make sense of your experiences, build trust in your own perceptions and experiences, and create a life that feels authentic to your values. Much of my work is with people who left and then found that leaving was the easier part. Clinically, I use EMDR for trauma processing and the Gottman Method with couples. I also use Dr. Steven Hassan's BITE Model as a framework for understanding what happened, because naming the structure of control tends to do something that general trauma language can't — it separates what was done to you from what you concluded about yourself. Where I differ from some trauma therapists: I don't treat your spiritual life as the problem to be resolved. For many people leaving a high-control group, the loss of a genuine relationship with the sacred is its own grief, tangled up with the harm. You're welcome to sort out what you still believe, what you never believed, and what you want to keep — or to leave that question entirely alone. That's yours to decide, not mine.
