While I've deconstructed many of the beliefs I was taught, I hold deep compassion for people of faith and respect the sincere beliefs my clients may hold. Because of my background, I understand the complex impacts of purity culture, as well as the pressure to conform that is exerted by certain religious institutions, religious cultures, and families. I'm a relational therapist (LMFT) and a sex therapist by training. I work with adult individuals, couples, and other relational groups. I'm passionate about helping people find the emotional freedom and sexual fulfillment that may feel unavailable to them, particularly due to entrenched subconscious beliefs or past traumatic experiences. I welcome clients from all walks of life, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities, as well as people who have non-traditional relationship structures or BDSM/kink interests. I am neurodivergent and enjoy helping clients who are neurodivergent themselves. In my work with clients, I focus on emotional fluency: that is, helping people identify, allow, and become adept at navigating their emotions, needs, and desires, both personally and within their relationships. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy with an attachment lens, and I'm trained in the Gottman method and other modalities that incorporate an emphasis on self-compassion, authenticity, connection, congruence with personal needs/values, and healthy communication and boundaries. My niches are helping folks heal the impacts of being part of a culture with restrictive and prescriptive religious beliefs (most especially purity culture), and helping clients navigate ethical non-monogamy. I have a warm, open, direct, engaged, and relational style. I'm also a master-certified Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) practitioner, ART is a unique, somatic modality based on EMDR that addressed trauma/PTSD, C-PTSD, relational ruptures, situational anxieties, and phobias. I'm also a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist (PAT) and help clients who want to utilize ketamine, psilocybin, MDMA, or DMT to enhance their healing. ART and PAT and the tools in my toolbox I use to assist clients who feel frustrated and stuck, despite earnest efforts at talk therapy. Much of my work is with people who left and then found that leaving was the easier part. Clinically, I use EMDR for trauma processing and the Gottman Method with couples. I also use Dr. Steven Hassan's BITE Model as a framework for understanding what happened, because naming the structure of control tends to do something that general trauma language can't — it separates what was done to you from what you concluded about yourself. Leaving, questioning, or changing a faith tradition can affect much more than what you believe. It can reshape relationships, family dynamics, identity, sexuality, parenting, community, and your sense of right and wrong. Many of my clients also carry deeply ingrained patterns of shame, perfectionism, people-pleasing, fear of disappointing others, difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling responsible for other people's emotions. My approach is secular, affirming, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I'm not interested in steering you toward or away from religion. Therapy is a place where you can examine your experiences honestly, make sense of what happened to you, and decide for yourself what beliefs, relationships, and values you want to carry forward. I also specialize in ADHD and neurodivergence, anxiety, perfectionism, men's emotional expression, boundaries, and relationship difficulties. These experiences often overlap in meaningful ways with religious trauma—for example, when ADHD-related struggles were interpreted as laziness or moral failure, when masking became intertwined with expectations about who you were supposed to be, or when perfectionism and shame were reinforced by religious environments. Sessions with me tend to be conversational and individualized. Sometimes we'll explore past experiences and the patterns they created; other times we'll focus on something happening in your life right now or on practical ways to establish boundaries, communicate your needs, and build a life that feels more authentically yours. You don't need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. You can be religious, nonreligious, somewhere in between, or genuinely unsure. My goal is to provide a space where you can be curious about your experiences without being judged, pressured, or given someone else's answers.
